Description
The lamp post outside 66 Chandos Place is a gas street light from 1910. It features a cast iron column that tapers and is fluted, identified as model number 1275 in the William Sugg catalogue, known as the 'Eddystone'. At the top, it is fitted with a Grosvenor-type lantern, although the date of the lantern is unknown.
The base of the column displays the Westminster City Council crest on one side and the royal cypher G V R along with the date 1910 on the other side. There is also an oval plaque on the lower part of the base that bears an illegible serial number. The lantern itself is circular, featuring tapered and curved glazing panels held in place by metal glazing bars. It is topped with a decorative, perforated fret and an ogee finial. Inside the lantern, there is a four-mantle inverted burner, a battery-operated time clock, and an aluminium reflector. The lantern is mounted on a three-legged frog that is attached to the collar of the column.
