Description

The lamp post outside 7-9 Dean Bradley Street is a gas street light that likely dates from the late 19th century, featuring an ornate column and a Grosvenor-type lantern that was probably installed around 1930.

The lamp post is made of cast iron and has a glazed lantern constructed from iron, spun copper, and enamelled aluminium. The decorative ‘fret’ around the top of the lantern is likely made of cast lead. The column has acanthus leaves at the base, floral mouldings, and is topped with the Grosvenor lantern. The tapered square base of the column features an oval plaque with the number 6059 on one side and the initials LCC (London County Council) on the other. There is a single ladder bar on the column.

The lantern itself is circular, with tapered and curved glazing panels held in place by metal glazing bars. It is topped with a decorative, perforated fret and an ogee finial. Inside the lantern, there is a six-mantle inverted burner, a Horstmann 14-day clockwork time controller, and a steel reflector. The lantern is mounted on a four-legged frog that is attached to the collar of the column.
