Lamp post outside 57b Tufton Street

The lamp post outside 57b Tufton Street is a gas street light dating from 1910, featuring an Eddystone column and a Rochester-type lantern likely installed around 1930.

The lamp post is made of cast iron and includes a glazed lantern constructed from iron, spun copper, and enamelled steel. It has a tapering, fluted Eddystone column topped with an upright Rochester lantern. The base of the column displays the Westminster City Council crest on one side, while the opposite side features the royal cypher G V R along with the date 1910. Additionally, there is an oval plaque numbered 6505.

The lantern itself consists of a circular drum and rain-shield made of copper, positioned above an inverted, six-mantle burner encased in teardrop-shaped glass with a drainage hole at the base and an enamelled steel reflector. This entire assembly is held in place by an iron cradle with two curved uprights extending from the clock box, which retain much of their original decorative ironwork scrolls typical of inter-war Rochester lanterns.
