Description

Dolphins The Cottage is a Grade II listed cottage located on Rose Street in Wokingham. It dates back to the early 17th century and was altered in the mid-20th century. The building is timber framed, with parts covered in vertical tile hanging and some areas underbuilt in painted brick. The frame is partly exposed at the rear with brick infill, and it features an old tile gabled roof. The cottage has an L-shaped plan with two framed bays and a small one-bay stair turret at the rear. It is likely jettied at the road front and has two storeys plus an attic.

On the road front, the first floor is tile hung, and the right gable features 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, including one two-light window in the attic, one two-light and one three-light window on the first floor, and two two-light windows on the ground floor, along with a plain 20th-century entrance door to the left of the gable. The left side of the building has similar windows and tile hanging. Inside, part of the timber frame is exposed, showcasing principal beams with chamfers and stepped stops. The roof structure consists of a butt purlin roof with constant principal rafters and straight windbraces.
