Description
The Kiddlewinck and The Dolphin are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century. They feature serpentine exposed rubble walls with timber lintels above the openings. The Kiddlewink has plastered cob around its dormer window, while both cottages have slate roofs below the dormers. The Dolphin has a thatched roof with a rendered chimney at the front and brick stacks in the gables.
The cottages are 1 and a half storeys tall, with a six-window range and a central doorway for each cottage, both of which are topped with gabled porches. The Kiddlewink has horizontal sliding sash windows, while The Dolphin features 2-light casements. Each cottage has one attic casement set back in the thatch above the eaves. There is a central lateral stack on the front with a rendered shaft, and the south-east gable of The Dolphin rises to two and a half storeys, featuring 20th-century double timber doors leading to the cellars, which were previously used for the fishing industry and have a cobbled floor with large drains.
At the rear, there is a later extension with a slate outshut to the basement. Inside The Dolphin, there is a large exposed fireplace on the right-hand side with a large timber chamfered lintel that has step stops, and a cloam oven on the right. The ground floor features simple panelled screens and timber pegs in the base of the rafters, although the roof is not accessible. The interior of The Kiddlewink has not been inspected.
