Description
Fort York Cellars, located to the southwest of Winch House in Grade-Ruan, are former fish (pilchard) cellars and fishing lofts that have been repurposed as fish sheds and partially converted for domestic accommodation. They date from the early 19th century and have undergone later alterations. The structure is built of rubble stone and timber boarding, topped with scantle slate roofs. It consists of a series of open courts that face east towards the sea. The main central section features open arcades supported by square granite piers. The original sloping cobbled floors used by the cellars have been removed. The building is asymmetrical, with one and two storeys, and has been significantly altered over time. It is included for its group value and is situated in the centre of the village of Cadgwith, extending along the east side of the road and onto the beach.
