Description
The Old Cellars is a Grade II listed building located in Grade-Ruan, Cadgwith. Originally fish cellars used for pilchard storage, it has been converted into a restaurant with a small cottage to the west. The structure features random rubble walls, which are partly whitewashed, and timber boarding on the first floor of the north-east block. The roofs are made of slurried scantle slate, with gabled roofs and a hipped roof on the south side. Brick chimneys are positioned on the gabled ends of the north-east block.
The building consists of a two-storey range to the north-east, with a courtyard in front. There is a single-storey block with a central entrance on the south-east, along with two single-storey wings to the north-west and south-west, which have open fronts leading to yards. The roofs of these wings are supported by square granite posts. A two-storey corner on the west is part of the adjoining cottage. The courtyard has a sloping cobbled floor designed with a channel to collect oil and salt from the pressed pilchards. The building is included for its group value.
