Description

An 18th-century cottage located in Ruan, near Cadgwith. The cottage is built of whitewashed rubble with timber lintels and stone sills to the ground-floor openings, and has a thatched roof with brick chimneys at each gable end. It is a symmetrical two-window front with extensions added to either side. The front features two 20th-century leaded casement windows with two lights each, flanking a partly glazed central door. Above these are two similar windows. Brick chimneys are present in the gable ends. A two-storey 20th-century extension has been added on the left (south-east) side and a single-storey extension is in front. This extension features sloping slate roofs, plastered walls, and 20th-century windows. A projecting extension on the right-hand side represents a converted wash-house, still containing a stone copper. This section has a scantle slate roof and a brick chimney on its gable end. Inside the left-hand room is a large exposed fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel made of reused timber. The upstairs of the cottage was not inspected.
