Description
No. 82 Rose Street is a cottage that dates back to the mid-16th century, with extensions from the 17th century and alterations made in the late 20th century. The building features a combination of timber framing, which is exposed at the rear with painted brick infill, and brick construction, topped with an old tile gabled roof. It has an L-plan layout with two framed bays and an extension at the rear and on the east end. The cottage is two storeys tall and has a chimney on the ridge to the left.
The front of the building displays dentilled eaves and features two 3-light leaded casements on each floor, with segmental heads on the ground floor. To the left, there is a six-panelled entrance door, with the top two panels glazed, set within a moulded architrave surround and topped with a small cornice. The last bay of the cottage is a late 20th-century addition designed to match the original style.
Inside, there is a large fireplace at the rear, complete with a carved beam above the opening. The principal beams are exposed, and the roof structure includes a queen post design with clasped purlins. Additionally, part of an early staircase remains on the first-floor landing, featuring a moulded handrail and fluted columnar newels.
