Description

No. 10 is a cottage located in Acton Burnell, dating from the 17th century with some remodelling in the mid-19th century. The building is timber framed with rendered infill, and parts are encased or rebuilt in painted brick, topped with a plain tile roof. It likely consists of two framed bays positioned at right angles to the road, featuring Tudor Gothic remodelling. The cottage is one storey high with an attic.

The exterior showcases shaped barge boards with pendant finials. On the south side, there is a gabled dormer that includes a two-light metal casement window with a returned brick hoodmould. The roof has an off-centre brick ridge stack to the north and an integral brick ridge stack to the south. The gable end to the north displays close studding with a middle rail and long straight tension braces.

On the west front, there are two 19th-century wooden cross-windows with metal casements, one of which has a returned brick hoodmould. The central entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door and a 19th-century gabled wooden porch, which has chamfered posts, curved brackets, shaped barge boards, and a pendant finial. The gable end to the north includes a 20th-century three-light attic casement and a 19th-century two-light ground-floor casement. There is also a 20th-century brick lean-to addition to the south. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
