Description

No. 22 Drayton Road is a cottage dating from the early 17th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick nogging set on a roughly dressed sandstone plinth, while the left-hand gable end is rendered. The right-hand gable end has been rebuilt and extended in brick, painted to resemble timber framing. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The framing consists of square panels, with three panels running from the sole plate to the wall plate, and short corner braces. The cottage has three framed bays and is one storey with an attic.

There is a brick ridge stack that is off-centre to the right, which was rebuilt above the ridge in the 20th century, and another brick stack just behind the ridge, off-centre to the left. The front has three large gabled timber framed eaves dormers, each with three-light wooden casements and painted imitation trusses. The front elevation has four windows featuring two-light wooden-framed metal casements. A boarded door is located between the first and second windows from the left, and there is a 20th-century gabled timber framed porch. There is also a blocked 17th-century straight-sided arched doorway off-centre to the right. The right-hand gable end is underbuilt to the tie beam and features a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. At the rear, there is a 19th-century gabled wing with an external brick end stack. The interior has not been inspected.
