8, Drayton Road

No. 8 on Drayton Road is a cottage that has been divided, dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with 20th-century painted brick nogging. The left-hand gable end has been rebuilt in painted brick, and there are additional brick structures at the rear. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The framing consists of small square panels, with three panels running from the sole plate to the wall plate, and long straight tension braces. Originally, the cottage had a baffle-entry plan with two framed bays. It is one storey high with an attic, and has a central brick ridge stick. There are two large restored timber-framed gabled eaves dormers, each with two-light wooden casements. Evidence of two blocked doorways can be seen, located between the second and third windows from the left and between the first and second windows from the right. The right-hand gable end features a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts, while the left-hand gable end has remains of a truss with a collar and V-struts. A 20th-century brick lean-to addition is present at the rear, which also serves as the current entrance. The interior has not been inspected.
