Description
No. 36 on Shrewsbury Road is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill set on a rendered rubblestone plinth, topped by a straw thatch roof. The cottage has a two-cell baffle-entry plan and consists of one storey with a gable-lit attic. The framing includes wide rectangular panels, with three panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, and V-struts connecting the collar and single-purlin ends to the right gable end. A 20th-century ledged door is located to the left of centre, flanked by 19th-century cast-iron latticed casements on either side. There is a red brick ridge stack in two sections with a moulded capping positioned directly above the entrance. Additionally, a small 19th-century red brick outbuilding with a slate roof is attached to the rear right corner.
