Description

No. 7 Church Street is a cottage dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber framed, featuring painted brick nogging on a painted brick and sandstone rubble plinth, with the gable end at the front rebuilt and extended to the right in painted brick. It has plain tile roofs. The framing consists of square panels, with three from the sole plate to the wall plate, and long straight tension braces. The cottage has one long and one short framed bay that are positioned at right angles to the road. It is one storey high with an attic over a basement. The shaped barge boards include a finial. At the rear, there is a large external brick end stack that has recessed diaper panels, a toothed brick cornice, and three diagonally-placed brick shafts with oversailing tops.

On the upper floor, there is a late 19th-century two-light wooden attic casement. The ground floor features a pair of segmental-headed wooden casements, with a two-light window to the left and a one-light window to the right. Steps lead up to a central segmental-headed four-panelled door, which is sheltered by a mid-20th-century timber framed gabled porch. To the left, there is a segmental-headed two-light basement window, and to the right, a segmental-headed basement door. The front includes a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. A late 19th-century gabled addition is located to the right, which has a segmental-headed two-light attic casement. The interior has not been inspected.
