Description
No. 4 Felton Butler is a cottage that likely dates from the late 16th century. It is timber framed with painted brick nogging set on a rubblestone plinth. The east end wall features a brick plinth and a rendered gable, while the south wall has been rebuilt or refaced in brick. The roof is covered with slate. The framing consists of large square panels, with two extending from the sole plate to the wall plate. The cottage is probably made up of two framed bays, possibly part of a larger structure. It has one storey and an attic, with an external brick end stack on the west side.
The north front has two windows: a 19th-century two-light casement on the right and a small 19th-century one-light casement on the left. There is a central boarded door, and a small two-light attic casement is located in the left-hand gable end. At the rear, there are two segmental-headed casements, with a two-light window on the left and a four-pane window on the right, along with a central segmental-headed boarded door and a large flat-roofed dormer. The interior has not been inspected.
