Description

The Poplars is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with red sandstone dressings, and has a slate roof. The house is two storeys and an attic, set over a basement, and arranged in a T-plan. It features a chamfered stone plinth, a dentil brick eaves cornice, and parapeted gable ends with chamfered stone copings and shaped stone kneelers, which have been truncated to the front. External brick stacks are present, including a lateral stack to the rear wing. There are three gabled eaves dormers with 2-light, small-paned wooden casements. The main facade has three bays, with segmental-headed glazing bar sashes having painted stone cills (16 panes to the ground floor). A central door has six flush panels, a three-part rectangular overlight, a moulded wooden architrave, and a flat hood supported on shaped brackets. A segmental-headed basement window with bars is located to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
