Description

Nos. 19, 20, and 21 on Drayton Road are a house that has been divided, originally built in the 16th century with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is timber framed with painted brick nogging set on a roughly dressed sandstone plinth. Parts of the building have been rebuilt and extended in brick, which is painted to mimic timber framing. The roofs are covered with plain tiles.

The framing features a hall range with rectangular panels, two of which extend from the sole plate to the wall plate. The eaves were raised by about one-third of the panel height during the 19th century. The cross-wing has large square panels, three of which extend from the sole plate to the wall plate, and includes large curved arched braces. The building has an L-plan layout, with the hall range consisting of two framed bays and a gabled cross wing to the left that projects at the rear. It is one storey and an attic high, while the cross wing is two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic.

The building features shaped barge boards, an off-centre brick ridge stack to the left, an external 19th-century brick end stack to the right, and a brick ridge stack on the cross wing. There are three 19th-century gabled semi-dormers on the right, each with two-light wooden casements. The front has four windows, including two-light and three-light wooden and metal-framed wooden casements. There is a boarded door located between the first and second windows from the left, and a 20th-century half-glazed door between the first and second windows from the right. To the left of the left-hand door, there is a small partly-blocked two-light wooden staircase window. Additionally, there is a boarded door with a gabled porch located in the return of the cross wing. The interior has not been inspected.
