Description
No. 18 Primrose Lane is a cottage dating from the late 16th century, which has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infilling and an old tile gabled roof. The building is arranged in a U-shape with four framed bays in the front section and irregular small extensions at the rear. It stands two storeys high and has a 17th-century chimney located on the ridge to the left of the center. The cottage has 20th-century two and three-light leaded casement windows that are irregularly spaced within the framing, with those on the ground floor covered by small tiled pent hoods. There is a 20th-century gabled, closed entrance porch on the south front, projecting from the second bay from the left. Inside, most of the timber frame is visible on both floors, featuring straight braces. The ground floor joists and principal beams have chamfers with stopped ends. There is an old four-light diamond mullioned window on what was the former external wall on the first floor at the northeast, and a large inglenook fireplace.
