Description

The Garden House is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped roof covered with old tiles. The building is designed in an L-plan, with the 19th-century extensions located on the north-west side. It has two storeys and attics, with a lower ground floor on the south-east side. There are three chimneys, two on the left and one on the right. The windows are mostly sash style with glazing bars.

On the south-east front, there are two irregular dormer windows and a tall angular one-storey bay on the right at the first floor. This bay has a frieze, cornice, a flat lead roof, and a flush panelled apron. There are three sash windows: one at mezzanine level to the left of the bay, one beneath the bay at ground floor level, and another on the lower ground floor.

The north-west front features the early 19th-century extension, which is also two storeys high. It is constructed of brick and has flat eaves supported by cut brackets. On the right, there is a pedimented projection with three bays, the centre of which is blocked on both floors. There is a bay set back on the left side, while the main block is further back on the left, featuring a panelled door with a radiating fanlight in the angle. To the right of the pedimented section, there is a similar set-back with another bay set back to the right, which includes a panelled door and a semi-circular radiating fanlight in a moulded architrave. At the rear, there is an old walled kitchen garden with York stone paving adjacent to the house.
