Description

Lock's House is an early 18th-century house with late 18th-century alterations on the west side and 19th and 20th-century extensions on the south. It is constructed of plum-colored brick with red quoins and vertical strips that define each bay. The house features a steeply pitched hipped roof covered with old tiles. It has two storeys and an attic, with a tall plinth, a first-floor string course, and a moulded and bracketed painted wooden cornice. The chimneys on the rear roof slope have offset heads.

The north front has three pedimented dormers with sash windows that include glazing bars, with the center dormer featuring a segmental pediment. The other windows on this facade are segmental-headed sashes with glazing bars. The house has five bays, with the center bay slightly projecting and featuring a string course and cornice that are broken around it. The central entrance is an eight-panelled door with a small two-pane rectangular fanlight, set within a Doric doorcase made of fluted plaster. This doorcase includes an entablature with a triglyph frieze and a modillioned pediment, and it is approached by a flight of five moulded stone steps with a wrought iron handrail.

On the west front, there is a large semi-circular two-storey bay on the left, with a cornice that wraps around and an old tile hipped roof. This bay has three sash windows on each floor, although their heads have been altered. To the right, there is one central upper sash window and two on the ground floor.

Inside, the house features 18th and 19th-century panelling in the hall and principal rooms. There is a late 18th-century fireplace with flanking semi-circular headed cupboards in the rear room, and an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters.
