Description
Five Gates is a house dating from the mid-18th century, which has been altered and has later extensions at the rear. The building features chequer brickwork that is whitewashed except for the front, with a rendered plinth, chamfered and offset brick eaves, and a hipped old tile roof. There are brick chimneys located to the left and between the right bays. The house is double-pile and consists of two storeys with three bays.
The ground floor has paired wooden casements on the left side and a 6-panelled main door with a rusticated brick surround and stepped voussoirs. The first floor has three-pane sash windows in the outer bays, which have box frames on the jambs. The right bays on the ground floor feature a 20th-century shallow hipped projection that is glazed, with a door to the left. There is also a lean-to structure on the left side. Inside, the rear right bay includes a re-used spine beam from around 1600 that has an ovolo moulding.
