Description
Fawley House, formerly known as the Rectory, is a house that dates from the mid-18th century and has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It is constructed of brick and features a moulded wooden eaves cornice, a hipped old tile roof, and rebuilt brick chimneys with panelled sides and 20th-century stone caps. The original house is a double pile structure with two storeys, an attic, and three bays. The garden front facing southeast showcases original chequer brickwork, with three-pane sash windows featuring gauged heads on the first floor. The ground floor is irregular, featuring a 20th-century rectangular bay window on the left and tall narrow French doors on the right. Central French doors are set within a rusticated flint surround topped with a moulded stone cornice. There is one flat-roofed dormer with paired barred wooden casements.
To the left, there is a late 18th to early 19th-century single-storey extension made of chequer brick, which has a 20th-century hipped slate roof and wooden cornice, a large four-pane sash window, and a bowed projection on the left side. On the right, there are 20th-century extensions that include a stone Ionic colonnade, which has been infilled with French doors. The entrance front has been rebuilt in the 20th century to match the original style, featuring three bays of three-pane sashes and one dormer. The central panelled door is topped with a semi-circular fanlight and is framed by an Ionic stone porch. Extensions to the left connect with a 20th-century block of three bays that includes a central pedimented wooden doorcase.
