Description

The Mackenzie Mausoleum, built in 1862 for the Mackenzie family of Fawley Court, is a mausoleum constructed from large blocks of Aberdeen granite. It is approximately Grecian in style and features a square shape with a shallow stepped pyramid roof, a plain entablature, and a roll-moulded plinth. The north side has an entrance that includes an inscription frieze and a projecting pediment supported by heavy pilasters. The tympanum displays a winged hourglass. The wooden door has a latticed upper panel and is adorned with a heraldic stag's head. The other sides of the mausoleum feature panels with carved urns set in narrow flanking recesses. The east and west panels contain inscriptions, while the south panel is heraldic.
