Description

WARGRAVE BATH ROAD, SU 87 NW (south side) Hare Hatch 3/9 The Horse and Groom II Inn with stables and hayloft, now Public House and restaurant. C17 altered C19 andC20. Timber framed refaced with painted brick. Brick dentil eaves to old tile gabled roof with 3 gabled dormers, wide chimney on west gable. L-plan with other C20 additions at rear. One and a half storyes, and cellar. North front: three 2-light casement windows with horizontal glazing bars in dormers, 2 flat angular bays on ground floor with sash windows and glazing bars, that in centre with entrance door adjoining on left, both with flat roofs and tripartite sash window with glazing bars on right: On the left hand converted stable retains gabled hayloft with boarded door in roof, and 2 sash windows with glazing bars either side of C20 small pane entrance door. Interior: 2 bays of floor framing with chamfers on principal beams and, joists,some replaced, with chamfers and stops; some false timberwork.
