Description
The Horse and Groom is an inn with stables and a hayloft, currently functioning as a public house and restaurant. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed and has been refaced with painted brick. It features brick dentil eaves beneath an old tile gabled roof, which has three gabled dormers and a wide chimney on the west gable. The structure is L-shaped, with additional 20th-century extensions at the rear. It stands one and a half stories tall and includes a cellar.
On the north front, there are three 2-light casement windows with horizontal glazing bars in the dormers. The ground floor has two flat angular bays with sash windows and glazing bars; the central bay features an entrance door on the left, with both bays having flat roofs. To the right, there is a tripartite sash window with glazing bars. On the left side, a converted stable retains a gabled hayloft with a boarded door in the roof and two sash windows with glazing bars on either side of a 20th-century small pane entrance door. Inside, the building has two bays of floor framing with chamfers on the principal beams and joists, some of which have been replaced, along with chamfers and stops; there is also some false timberwork.
