1 CHURCH STREET

5130 No 4 SU 9676 NE 3/9 4.1.50. II GV 2. The remaining part of a pair of houses. Late C17/early C18 3 storeys and basement, brick on projecting plinth, painted stone strings at 1st floor and 1st floor cill levels, moulded and denticulated cornice over 1st floor windows, 2nd floor rendered. Old tile roof. The left hand bay projects 4 1/2 ins and has string and cornice carried round. There are 2 windows and a panel to the left-hand on the 2nd floor, 3 windows on the 1st floor, 2 windows to right hand on the ground floor. All the windows are narrow with central glazing bars. To the left hand is a 6-panelled door with a 3-paned rectangular fanlight over in a painted stone doorcase of architrave surround, plain frieze and carved console brackets supporting cornice breaking forward over the brackets. One window in basement and C18 wrot iron railings. Nos 4 to 7 (consec). The Church Rooms, Nos 12 and 13 and the cobble sets in Church Street form a group.
