Description
The Ship Inn is located on Church Lane and dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. This building is two storeys tall with three windows and features a stuccoed and rusticated exterior. It has a parapet and a mansarded slate roof, with intact glazing bars. The first-floor windows are set in round-headed arcading, and there is a doorway with a low segmental-headed fanlight.
Adjoining the Ship Inn is No. 5, which is from the 17th century or earlier. This building has two storeys and an attic, with two windows and a plastered front. It features a gable and a modillion pantile roof. The ground floor has been underbuilt in painted brick, with small modillion shop windows. Above, there are sash windows. In the west corner of the ground floor, there are shed doors with an inscription reading "Engine House 1803" along with the names of the church-wardens. The Ship Inn, along with Nos. 3, 4, and 5 Church Lane and the Masonic Hall, forms a group of buildings.
