Description
The Church Rooms, dating from the early 18th century, are an addition to an older building. This structure has two storeys and an attic, featuring roughcast and timber framing, along with a projecting rendered plinth. The roof is covered with old tiles and has a heavy moulded eaves cornice with modillions. In the attic, there are four hipped dormer windows, each with two lights. The first floor has five windows with architrave frames, while the ground floor includes a fixed four-paned window on the left side. The entrance consists of a recessed half-glazed double door, framed by an architrave surround, a plain frieze, and a small cornice. To the right of the entrance, there is one window and a central doorcase that has been converted into a window, both with architrave surrounds, plain friezes, cornices, and pediments, along with two additional windows. The elevation facing Church Lane displays 16th-century roughcast and timber framing, which overhangs the ground floor. It has two irregular windows on the first floor and a thin buttress shaft with a bracket supporting the overhang. The Church Rooms, along with Nos 4 to 7 (consecutive), Nos 12 and 13, and the cobbled sets in Church Street, form a cohesive group.
