Description
Castle Hill House is a large late 18th century town house located at the corner site between Church Street and St Alban's Street. It was refaced in the mid-19th century with irregular ashlar and features gothic details. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, topped by a mansard slate roof that includes two gabled dormers with bargeboards. The parapet has coping, and there are four windows plus one window space, all with recessed sashes and intact glazing bars. On the right side, there is a large two-storey canted bay window that serves the ground and first floors. The porch has a crow stepped gable and a pointed archway. The return elevation has four windows, two of which are blind. The windows are protected by cast iron flower guards. Additionally, there are 18th century wrought iron area railings with urn-shaped finials on the standards. Castle Hill House, along with Nos 2 to 4 (consecutive) and Nos 10 and 11, forms a group.
