Description

Little Diligent is a cottage dating back to the 16th century, with later alterations in the 20th century. It is partly timber frame construction with painted brick infill, and partly painted brick, with a gabled and hipped roof covered in old tiles. The building has a rectangular plan of four framed bays, with a gable facing the road, and a rectangular extension to the north forming an ā€œLā€ shape. Parts of the cottage are two storeys high, while others are two storeys with an attic. The roof has an old chimney with three grouped stacks, and another chimney on the extension, both topped with clay pots. There are 19th-century irregular casement windows. The south gable has a single bay, featuring a three-light window over a tie beam. A 20th-century semi-circular bay window with glazing bars and a flat roof is on the ground floor. The east side of the cottage is irregular, with two windows on the first floor and two windows on the ground floor, all of different sizes. A 20th-century entrance door is set within a lean-to porch at one end. An interior inspection was not possible at the time of survey.
