Description

Homestead Cottage is a cottage built in the late 19th century, with an addition from around 1900 to the south and a small 20th-century addition to the east, designed by Alfred Waterhouse. The cottage is constructed of red brick, featuring some timber framing on the first floor to the south, with brick nogging and plaster infill in the gable end. It has toothed verges and a gable to the east that includes a corbelled dovecote at the apex. The roof is made of old tiles, sloping lower over the southern addition.

The building has a T-plan and is 1½ storeys high. On the south front, there is a three-light casement window in the gable end on the first floor, and a two-light segmental headed casement window below on the ground floor. The west front features a two-light segmental headed casement window off-centre to the left and a segmental headed doorway to the left with a half-glazed door. On the east front, there is a two-light casement window on the first floor to the left, a two-light segmental headed casement window off-centre to the left on the ground floor, and a segmental headed doorway to the left with a boarded door and a tiled lean-to porch. To the right, there is a later one-storey lean-to with a small casement. The projecting wing to the right has a two-light segmental headed casement in the gable end on the first floor and a four-light segmental headed casement window below.

The stable wing features a central segmental headed doorway with a two-leaf boarded door, flanked by two two-light segmental headed casements.
