Description
Yattendon School is a building constructed between 1891 and 1892 by Alfred Waterhouse, with a mid-20th century addition. It is made of red brick with Bath stone dressings and features a plinth. The school has coped parapeted gable ends with footstones and kneelers, and an old tiled roof that includes a moulded octagonal end stack to the west and a tile-hung bellcote on the ridge to the north, topped with a tiled cap and lead finial. There is a 20th-century flat-topped semi-dormer to the south-west and a gabled dormer to the south in the east wing. The building has a T-plan layout and consists of one storey, with an additional storey and attic in the east wing. A large 12-light mullioned and transomed window is located on the south side, featuring a straight hoodmould and pieced stone in the gable end above. Below this window, there is an inscription that reads "In memory of Alfred Maurice Waterhouse." To the left, there is a Caernarvon arched doorway with a boarded door. Flanking the stack in the gable end to the west are two 6-light mullioned and transomed windows, each with straight hoodmoulds. Additionally, there is a two-light window with a boarded door to the left in the southern part of the eastern wing.
