Description
This barn, dating from the 17th century, is located approximately 50 metres southwest of Church Farmhouse in Lower Basildon. It features a timber frame set on flint walls, with brick dressings. The roof is half hipped and covered with old tiles, adorned with a dentil brick eaves cornice. The gable ends are weatherboarded, and there are two projecting weatherboarded cart entrances on each side, each topped with hipped tile roofs supported by brackets. The barn consists of ten framed bays with aisles, and there are opposed cart entrances in the third and eighth bays. Inside, the roof has double purlins, trusses with double rafters to the collar, and both transverse and longitudinal bracing. Additionally, there are eight 20th-century windows in the south wall.
