Description
River Barn is a 17th-century barn with 19th-century alterations and additions located in Bucklebury. The structure is timber framed with a brick plinth and is weatherboarded. It features a half hipped corrugated asbestos roof, with hipped 19th-century midstrays on brackets projecting to the north and south in the second bay from the west. The barn consists of four framed bays with aisles. Inside, there are queen post and queen strut trusses, along with transverse and longitudinal bracing.
Adjacent to the barn is a mill block that spans the river to the southeast, dating from the 19th century. This block is also timber framed with weatherboarding and has a half hipped corrugated asbestos roof, comprising three framed bays. The interior includes a timber undershot waterwheel, along with the remains of gearing leading into the barn and millstones. There is an additional block to the east, also from the 19th century, which is timber framed with weatherboarding and a half hipped corrugated asbestos roof, featuring three framed bays with aisles.
