Description
The barn east of Millbank Farm House is a late 17th-century structure with early 19th-century alterations and additions. It features a brick nogged timber frame and brickwork, topped with slate and tile roofs. The barn consists of three truss bays and has a two-bay, two-storey brick addition on the west side. The framing of the barn is 15 panels long and 4 panels wide, filled with early 19th-century brick nogging, and it stands on a 900mm high plinth made of 17th-century bricks. The barn includes half-heck doors and square pitch hole doors, with the section of the building under the slate roof. The early 19th-century brick addition has a flight of brick external steps with stone treads leading to the loft, which has a tile roof with blue clay ridge tiles. Inside, the barn features oak Queen Post Trusses with high collars supported by jowled posts, oak purlins with wind braces, and an oak ridge tree. However, the braces from the posts to the tie beams are missing. The floor and roof timbers in the 19th-century addition match the period of the building.
