Description

Winterbottom Farmhouse is a former gamekeeper's cottage dating from 1670, as noted on the door head, with late 19th-century alterations. The building features a brick nogged timber frame and brickwork, topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. The entrance has a half-glazed 19th-century door set in a heavy chamfered frame, complete with external architraves and a narrow overlight. Above the entrance, there is an oak beam that is ogee moulded and bears the initials L AE along with the date.

The entrance is sheltered by a gabled porch made of softwood timber framing and brick nogging, which includes decorative barge boards. The ground floor has four-light casements with wooden lintels and two courses of terracotta sills, while the first floor features rounded heads on its windows. A stone plinth-cornice is present, with brickwork below that is laid in English garden wall bond up to the first floor. The facade includes small framing timbers with angle braces, visible on the first floor and one gable. An attic dormer is positioned above the front entrance, and there is a square central stack with recessed panels. A rear wing on the north side completes a "T" shaped plan. Inside, the farmhouse contains small chamfered beams and cased beams, along with 19th-century four-panel doors.
