Description
Old Hawkridge House is a house dating from the 16th century, with significant alterations in the late 17th century and 20th-century additions and re-facing. It is timber framed with tension braces and brick nogging, later with brick re-facing to the east side and tile hanging to the west gable. The roof is tiled, with a hipped section to the south side, featuring a central panelled ridge stack and an eyebrow dormer with a casement window to the right. The north side has a gabled cross wing projecting to the right, displaying braced collar details in the gable end, and a stack to the right. There's also a central gabled timber-framed stair tower with a casement window in the gable and a catslide roof to the left, incorporating a gable and casement window. The building forms an L-shape. The interior comprises two 17th-century framed bays, a smaller central bay around the stack, and a 16th-century bay forming the cross wing to the west. The house has two storeys and an attic. The south front has brick facing on the left side, with one 19th-century casement on each floor. A small 20th-century leaded casement sits centrally on the first floor, flanked by three-light leaded casements. The ground floor has central French casements flanked by a three-light leaded casement to the left and a four-light leaded casement to the right. A 19th-century conservatory projects in the centre. The interior has not been inspected.
