BURITON NEW BARN LANE (North East side) New Barn and adjoining water tank

Barn. Circa early C19 reconstruction of circa C18 barn. Weatherboarded timber frame on tall malmstone plinth with brick dressings. Hipped slate roof. PLAN: 3-bay barn with central threshing bay and aisles at sides and at either end; the side aisles are divided into separate bays by plinth walls. Stockyard walls and water tank on west side. EXTERIOR: west front has full-height cart entrance at centre with plank double doors. Rear [E] elevation has blocked cart entrance at centre and window opening to left and right. Large C19 water tank adjacent on west side; stone and brick plinth with cylindrical tank above made from cast-iron plates bolted together. INTERIOR: tall plinth; wall framing above with studs and tension-braces at corners. Jowled arcade-posts with straight braces to arcade-plates and tie-beam and queen-strut trusses with diminished principals and clasped purlins with straight wind-braces; common-rafter couples intact.
