Description

New Barn is a barn that dates from the early 19th century, which is a reconstruction of an earlier 18th-century barn. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a tall malmstone plinth with brick dressings and has a hipped slate roof. The barn has a three-bay layout with a central threshing bay and aisles on both sides and at each end. The side aisles are divided into separate bays by plinth walls. There are stockyard walls and a water tank located on the west side.

The west front of the barn has a full-height cart entrance in the center, which is fitted with plank double doors. The rear elevation has a blocked cart entrance in the center along with window openings on both the left and right sides. Adjacent to the barn on the west side is a large 19th-century water tank, which has a stone and brick plinth supporting a cylindrical tank made from cast-iron plates that are bolted together.

Inside, the barn features a tall plinth and wall framing above, with studs and tension-braces at the corners. The structure includes jowled arcade-posts with straight braces leading to the arcade-plates, as well as tie-beam and queen-strut trusses with diminished principals and clasped purlins that are supported by straight wind-braces. The common-rafter couples remain intact.
