Description
36, 36A and 38 London Road are early to mid-19th century semi-detached villas that have been altered. They stand three storeys high and were originally designed with one window each, featuring slightly recessed single-storey entrance extensions. The entrance of No 36 has been rebuilt to create a two-storey wing. The villas have hipped slate roofs with brick ridge stacks and are constructed of brick with a cornice and parapet. The recessed sash windows have gauged flat brick arches and glazing bars. No 36A features a splayed 19th-century bow window on the first floor and a modern shop window on the ground floor. No 38 has a round-arched ground floor window with radial glazing. The doorways of Nos 36A and 38 are round-arched with radial fanlights and panelled doors; the parapet of No 38 ramps up over the entrance, while No 36 has a modern doorway. No 38 also includes a patterned cast-iron balcony at the first-floor window. These buildings are included for their group value.
