Description

Nos. 2 and 4 are a pair of villas, now divided into flats, with attached garden walls to No. 2. They were built around 1840 and feature a rendered exterior with a hipped slate roof and stacks with rendered shafts and platbands. The overall layout is U-shaped, with two wings flanking a central range. The villas are entered towards the center.

The exterior has three-storey wings and a two-storey central section. Originally, the front was symmetrically designed with three bays on each side. It has deep eaves, pilaster strips on the wings, and a platband at the second-floor sill level. The central block is recessed and topped with a shallow pedimented gable. A three-bay Doric arcade spans the front, creating a breccia-paved verandah with round-headed arches supported by paired columns. The verandah was glazed in the late 19th century, featuring a mix of windows and glazed doors with low panels.

On the first floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows, while the wings have recessed central six-panel doors on the ground floor, with No. 2 featuring a replaced door. Most windows are intact 12-pane 19th-century sashes, although some have been reglazed in their original openings. Notably, No. 4 has an unfortunate attic dormer with a plastic window and Venetian shutters with scalloped fascias, though one pair of shutters is missing. The rear elevation was not seen during the survey. No. 2 has tall red breccia rubble garden walls. The interior has not been inspected but may contain interesting features. This building is paired with Nos. 12 and 14.
