Description

Pepperpot Cottage is a toll-house built around 1840. It is constructed of local red breccia rubble, with the rear painted and the front stuccoed, showing signs of previous blocking. The roof is slate and hipped over the canted front, with stacks that have rendered diagonally-set shafts, although the pots are missing. The building has a small two-room plan with canted bays at the front and rear, and a single-storey porch block attached to the left end. There are some 20th-century additions at the rear.

The cottage is two storeys high, featuring a canted bay at the front, with each face having one ground-floor and one first-floor window. All windows are two-light high-transomed casements, with the upper windows adorned with Tudor-style square-headed hoodmoulds that have label stops. The windows have been reglazed with 20th-century casements that include diamond leaded panes. The lean-to porch block on the right has a segmental-headed doorway with a moulded hoodmould. The half-glazed front door consists of three lights over three panels. The right return of the building has one ground-floor window, which has been reglazed with plate glass, and a blind recess above. The interior has undergone 20th-century alterations.
