Description
Elizabeth Cottage is a mid-19th century cottage with distinctive features, accessed through a coach passage between Nos 13 and 15 London Road. The cottage is two-and-a-half storeys tall, constructed of rendered brick, and topped with a concrete tile roof. It features an elaborated Dutch gable with a small attic window and one window on each floor. To the right, there is a set-back single-storey porch.
Inside, the front ground floor room boasts a ceiling decorated with the arms of 40 English towns and cities, with the Royal Arms at the center. This decoration primarily consists of engravings printed on paper and affixed to the ceiling. The mottoes include "A thing of beauty is a joy forever," "Religion is the parent of Architecture," and "Architecture is the parent of Taste." The room also has an undercut cornice and scroll brackets supporting the fireplace. The back room features a well-preserved chimneypiece from the same period, adorned with lion heads.
