Description
12 and 13 Portland Street is a terrace of houses built in 1830, consisting of four storeys and a basement. The exterior is stuccoed, featuring a rusticated ground floor and a slate roof. A parapet with a moulded cornice is located under the third floor. The houses are separated by pilasters adorned with a Greek key design. Each house has two sash windows with glazing bars. The first-floor windows are enhanced with cornice moulding supported on consoles, while the ground-floor windows are semi-circular headed, some featuring radiating glazing bars. Several houses have cast iron balconies at the first-floor level, decorated with heart and honeysuckle motifs. The entrance features wide doorcases with elliptical fanlights and sidelights flanking the panelled double doors, accessed by three stone steps. Iron spear railings enclose the areas. Number 13 Portland Street curves around the corner and has one bay of blank windows facing Portland Street. Numbers 23 and 25 form the return fronts to Nos 1 to 13 Portland Street.
