Description
This section of the medieval city walls runs west from Polymond Tower to the remains of a semi-circular tower east of Bargate, with a small part extending south of Polymond Tower. The walls are constructed of stone and rise to a height of 15 feet. There is a gap in the wall where it was breached in 1769, which allowed for the construction of York Gate, later demolished in 1961. The wall is recognized as an ancient monument.
