Description

Barclays Bank Ltd, formerly Martins Bank, is a building dating from around 1900, likely designed by S Kelway Pope in a Neo-Jacobean style. The three-story structure is constructed of stone, with a concealed roof behind a parapet featuring elaborate strapwork motifs and four obelisk-shaped finials. The second floor is distinguished by four Corinthian engaged columns; the first floor has four Ionic engaged columns, and the ground floor features four Roman Doric engaged columns. Decorative friezes are present between the floors, with particularly elaborate floral motifs on the frieze separating the first and second floors. The building has three mullioned and transomed windows, with the central window being a bay. A round-headed arch provides access to the door on the left side, incorporating a keystone and spandrels decorated with cornucopiae.
