Description

Palmerston's Monument is a stone statue erected in 1868 by the architect Sharpe. It features a standing figure of Lord Palmerston, who is depicted wearing a quasi-Roman toga. The statue stands on a square plinth that bears the inscription: "Palmerston K.C.G.C.B. Born 1784 died 1865. A burgess of Southampton. Erected by Public subscription. Frederick Perkins Mayor A.D. 1869."
