Description

Grove Cottage dates to the 1830s and is a Tudor Gothic cottage with a 'T' shape. It is a two-storey building of painted brick, with a tiled roof and scalloped bargeboards to the gable ends. The south front has four bays, featuring three mullion windows on the first floor and a round-headed lancet window above the porch. The porch has a label mould and a recessed, ogee-headed door with marginal glazing. Later, square bays were added on either side, and a two-storey bay was added to the right gable, along with a crenellated two-storey extension and porch below. A contemporary brick garden wall with a gate to the road is also present. The building was described in 1843 as “a neat red brick building in Elizabethan style.”
