Description

ROCHESTER HIGH STREET (St TQ 7467 Margaret's Banks) 12/99 No 308 (formerly listed as Nos 308 and 308A) 24.10.50 GV II Shop, built as a bank. C.1800. Stuccoed ground floor, painted brick; hipped Kent-tile roof. 3 storeys with attic, 5 bay ground floor, single bay (with tripartite windows) upper floors. Elaborate ground floor bays have 2 12-pane sash windows with glazing bars, lower sashes now with plate glass. Pair of Tuscan Doric pilasters with bases and capitals coupled at west angle only, with frieze, cornice and brackets. Central 2 leaf 6 panel raised and fielded door with segmental arch. 6 panel fielded door with wreathed knocker, plain over door light, giving access to house above. Similar door at west giving access to yard and alley, providing fifth bay of the facade. First floor has single projecting semental bow with fielded wooden dado. 3 windows with architrave strip divisions, with 8 pane outer and 12 pane central curved sashes. Flat roof with urn. Second floor has one tripartite 6 pane centre and 4 pane outer sashes under segmental rubbed brick arch. Parapet, single dormer, one stack. Deep build back along plot with tripartite sashes to rear.
