Description

Linden House is a house dating from the first quarter of the 18th century, possibly incorporating an earlier rear wall. It features textured plaster render on brick and a Kent tile roof. The building has a two-chamber plan with a central staircase and stands two storeys high with attics, presenting a three-window facade. The ground floor has two flush wooden sash windows with glazing bars, each having 12 panes, while the first floor has three similar windows. The doorcase is adorned with two fluted pilasters and a bracketed flat pentice, leading to an eight-panel raised and fielded door, two of which are glazed. There are also two hip-roofed dormers with fixed swivel casements and a partly replaced wooden eaves box cornice.

Inside, there is a well-preserved dogleg staircase from around 1714, featuring a handrail with a snake-neck sweep at the angles and three balusters per tread, continuing to the attic with all its original details. The ground floor rooms have two-panel fielded panelling and six-panel doors. In the southern room, there is a Rococo bolection moulded fireplace with a grate from around 1820, while the northern room has a similar fireplace and grate from the same period, along with boxed out cornices in both rooms. The first floor rooms are also panelled, with partly bolection moulded panel fields in the northern rooms.
