Description
These are two semi-detached houses, dating to around 1840, located on George Street. The houses are stucco faced, with decorative vermiculated strips running through the facade and vermiculation to the basement. They have low-pitched double gable slate roofs with a shallow eaves cornice and lion heads adorning the guttering. Each house has three windows to each floor, with the central windows shared on the second floor.
No. 25 has a recessed sash window on the second floor with original glazing bars. No. 27 has a later flat-fronted bow window of three lights, also with later glazing bars. Both houses have flat-fronted bow windows on the first floor, also of three lights, with pilasters extending down into panelled aprons. The ground floor features recessed tripartite sash windows with intact glazing bars and panelled pilasters with sloping sills. The basement windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars and flat, vermiculated arches.
A shared entrance is flanked by vermiculated strips, with a frieze and cornice above. A flight of steps, divided by a railing, leads to the entrance, where the four-panelled doors are set back. No. 25 has two glazed panels, while No. 27 has a rectangular fanlight within a moulded case.
Nos 25 and 27 are part of a group with Nos 45 and 47.
