Description
26 and 28 George Street is a semi-detached house built around 1840, designed as one residence. It stands three storeys high with a basement and is finished in stucco. The building features a parapet and a moulded cornice. There are two tiers of flat-fronted bow windows that extend through all three storeys, with one window in the center. Each bow window has three lights, is sash style, and has later glazing bars. The pilasters of the bow windows extend down into plain aprons, and the frieze and cornice of each bow window project forward, aligning with the main cornice on the second floor. The center windows are blind. The basement windows are recessed sash, with one retaining its original glazing bars. The entrance is shared, with doors set back and accessed by a flight of five steps that are divided by railings and splay out to the sides. The doors are recessed, panelled, and glazed, with a semi-circular fanlight on the left door and a rectangular fanlight with marginal glazing bars on the right. The entrance is flanked by Doric pilasters, with a frieze above that carries the cornice from the ground floor bow windows across.
